Caldecotte lake

The Parks Trust - c A City Oasis Built in 1982 as a balancing lake - designed to prevent the River Ouzel from flooding the southern part of Milton Keynes - Caldecotte Lake also provides many opportunities for leisure. Walking, cycling and, of course, watersports, are all popular, and there is an excellent children's play area close to the windmill. But the size of the lake means it's also easy to escape the activity and find a peaceful spot to enjoy the plentiful wildlife.

The Parks Trust - cFacts and Figures
Distance around the lake: about 4.2km around both north and south lakes.
Location: Caldecotte Lake lies within a rectangle formed by the A5D, the Bedford to Bletchley railway line, V10 Brickhill Street, and Simpson Road. The H10 Bletcham Way crosses the lake on a bridge and marks the division between north and south lakes.
Car parks: There are three car parks to the north of the lake at Simpson, all of which are close enough to be used by visitors to Caldecotte. There are also two more car parks at the lake itself, one on the north lake at the Caldecotte Arms (windmill pub) off H10 Bletcham way; the other is on the south lake off Monellan Grove.
Facilities: The closest shops are located in Walnut Tree local centre which is about five minutes walk away on the other side of V10 Brickhill street. The Caldecotte Arms (windmill pub) serves food and drink all day.
Access: Access is generally good with hard surface paths and numerous benches and picnic tables around the lake. Wheelchair users may find a few of the slopes around the dam structure at the top of the north lake to be a bit steep.

Wildlife Caldecotte Lake is an excellent habitat for wildlife. Its birdlife is particularly rich as boats are excluded from some areas:. This creates sancturies for large flocks of water birds, which can be seen from two bird hides on the south lake, one at the end of the point near the business park and one further round on the south shore.

The Parks Trust - c Watersports: The Watersports Centre of the east shore of the south lake is home to MK Sailing Club ( contact 01327 857532 ) and MK Rowing Club (click here for more details). Whilst on the north lake watersports are the responsibility of the Caldecotte Project, an outdoor education centre which works principally with school and youth groups but which also has public events click here for more details)
